American Heart Association
The company I worked for took part in a yearly American Heart Walk. Each year, their representative would come meet the leaders of the walk and pass out large envelopes to each leader containing paperwork. This consisted of about 30-40 pieces of paper in each envelope, for 24 folks, and multiply that by the number of companies they did this for. Yikes! The number was ridiculous and I set up an American Heart Walk site to demonstrate to them the cost savings by having the information available electronically. Aside from being awarded the AHW "Best Intranet Site" for 2002, I was asked to speak with their board and present my recommendations. The Walk they held next year was then completely over the internet. User registration, donation, event information, necessary documents available for download. You name it, it was on line. This saved the AHA so much money by not providing paper copies. Money that was then allocated to the core of their cause...fighting heart disease. All this was done for free.
American Cancer Society
Pretty much the same scenario as the AHA. However, I did not speak to their board or was not awarded anything. But the company I did the sites for was all done for free. Their site and event was called Relay for Life.
Deer Creek Digital Brochure
If you saw my work of sites done, you'll see I completed a site for Deer Creek Digital. After befriending the owner and head engineer, they asked me to design their brochure and create their business cards. I did this at no cost of course since they became good friends and did it as a favor.
Culinary Acadamy
I helped out my friend who was starting up a restaurant and culinary acadamy here in Chico by designing their logo at no cost.
